mukcyen was established in 2023 by fashion designer Yuka Kimura. The brand name "mukcyen" is a coined term based on the Chinese pronunciation of the designer's surname, "Mù Cūn." The name reflects the idea of imbuing an abstract word with no specific meaning with new significance by layering it with one's own history and culture. Designer Yuka Kimura was born in Japan and raised in China. After gaining four years of experience in the planning department of a globally renowned designer brand, she established her own brand, "mukcyen," in the summer of 2023 under the umbrella of SOHKI, which also manages labels such as M A S U.
